Can I join if I'm a beginner?
We have many beginners who join us every year, & we love to help connect you together! We have a Slack where you can meet other solo skiers and make friends to shred with! If you are a complete beginner who has never skied or snowboarded before, then we recommend you book a private lesson with an instructor at the ski resort we are going to that weekend. SSMUSKI offers transportation and a lift pass, but unfortunately, the executives of the club cannot teach others how to ski due to insurance policies.
Do I have to be a McGill student to join?
Yes - Proof of McGill ID and a valid student number is required for registration.
When do trips start?
Trips will start right away during the winter semester. Consult the calendar page for all trip dates!
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL SCHEDULE FOR A WEEKEND DAY TRIP?
Buses line up along 555 Sherbrooke (in front of the music building) and will depart at 6:30am. We will be departing with or without you at the posted time, so make sure you arrive early as to not miss the bus! We will arrive to the hill around 8:30 am, and depart at 4pm. You are free to ski or hang out in the lodge the entire time we are at the hill, there are no meetings or obligations. Arrival time back in Montreal depends on the hill location and traffic, but will typically be between 6-7pm.
I want a refund for my transportation fee:

OUR GOAL AS A CLUB IS TO PROVIDE AS MUCH SKIING AS POSSIBLE TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. MISSING A TRIP MEANS THAT THERE IS ONE LESS MEMBER WHO COULD HAVE SKIED THAT WEEKEND. Can I attend a trip if I have not paid for the membership pass?
Yes! We offer a single day bus pass for those in the McGill community who wish to participate in our trips but cannot make the commitment of paying the transportation fee. Non-member tickets are an additional $40 in order to compensate for transportation. (Please note that only McGill students may attend trips.)
I didn't receive a confirmation email after I bought my ticket/signed the waiver.
Confirmation emails are not sent out to the buyer/signatory but to us, so that we can track and confirm who will be on our trips each weekend. Once you are redirected from the payment/waiver page (barring notification of failed payment on the page itself), you are good to go!
When do trips usually sell out for the week?
Tickets usually go on sale a 8 days in advance of the trip - specifics are announced on our Instagram. The number of tickets sold on each trip depends on the resort's popularity, but they usually sell out quickly, so we recommend buying them as soon as they become available!
I forgot to sign up in time before the trip sells out. Is it still possible to come on that weekend's trip?
Possibly! It is likely that another member who has purchased a ticket can no longer attend the trip and may be willing to transfer their ticket to you, by reaching out in our Slack group that you are in search of a ticket can make it easier to find such a person. However, in order to guarantee yourself a spot you must register AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Demand for the club has risen and there is a chance the trip sells very quickly!!
I sold my ticket to someone on Slack. What do I have to do to make sure everything is good?
We ask that if you sell your ticket to someone that you send us an email with their name, email, and confirmation that they signed a waiver (before the Wednesday @11:30pm deadline. Please keep in mind that if a member ticket is sold to a non member, they must pay the $40 difference to our Pay Pal: [email protected]. If a non-member ticket is sold to a member, no partial refund will be provided.
Does the club provide rentals?
No, the club does not provide or facilitate the rental process in any capacity. We suggest you consult the trips page for information to help you find rental equipment. Please note that we reserve the right to change the trip location.
DO YOU PICK UP STUDENTS FROM MACDONALD CAMPUS?
No, unfortunately the only departure location is from the music building downtown.
Can I leave my stuff on the bus?
You can always leave your stuff on the bus, which will be locked or monitored by the bus driver throughout the day. Typically, the bus driver stays with the bus at the bottom of the hill, meaning that your things are accesible throughout the day. The accessibility of the bus will be confirmed with the bus driver and announced upon arrival at the hill. Most ski lodges also have shelves and lockers to leave your stuff inside.
